Overcoming Logistics Challenges in a Congested Area

Renovations for this 36-bed, 24-hour residential treatment facility (RTF) were performed in the fully operational Nordstrom Medical Tower at the Swedish Hospital First Hill Campus in Seattle. The project consisted of patient sleeping rooms, community lounges, bathing spa/toilet rooms, classrooms, an exercise room, game areas, group meeting and dining rooms, a full commercial kitchen, staff offices, and patient and staff support areas.

Due to critical Washington Department of Health prerequisites, patient safety protocols, and a sophisticated mechanical design, this project required a collaborative, proactive approach to planning and sequencing of subcontractors, vendors, inspections, and stakeholders alike.

A unique challenge for the project was coordinating work activity in an occupied medical building in busy downtown Seattle. The project team kept trades and materials moving efficiently throughout the project using Lean construction techniques and schedule management, all while minimizing any disruptions to the other healthcare occupants in the building.

Working with the Aldrich team was a great experience. The Aldrich team had great communication, did a good job managing the schedule/budget, and were proactive in identifying and solving issues that came up throughout the construction process. They were extremely collaborative and a fun to team to work with. Look forward to having the opportunity to work with them again.
