Aldrich was selected to manage all design and construction services for the renovation of the radiology spaces in the heart of the University of Washington Medical Center (UWMC). George Ward led the team in all design disciplines including MEP coordination, and preliminary budgeting and phasing plans. Aldrich committed to a GMP under a design-build agreement based on permit documents.
The renovation of the Radiology waiting, Cardiology admitting and associated support spaces, was a complex puzzle. Located at the confluence of four separate building structures with independent MEP systems, the need for accurate site investigations and due diligence was critical. Corridor realignment resulted in the relocation of three electrical panels, and new fire-rated walls to redefine smoke control zones. The project featured two waiting rooms with custom reception desks, new ADA restrooms, and a custom-designed floral wall covering.
At UWMC, this project was the first Progressive Design-Build method of procurement we have undertaken. The experience has been wonderful, and Aldrich has been engaged from the very beginning.
